August's lending market is giving Australian motorcycle buyers a familiar but important message: finance is available, yet the cheapest advertised rate is not always the best guide to what a rider will actually pay.

That stability can be useful if you are planning a purchase, because it gives you time to compare offers carefully rather than rushing into the first approval.

The key issue is that advertised rates usually apply to a particular borrower profile and product type. A secured loan on a newer bike may be priced differently from finance for an older used motorcycle, and the final rate can depend on income, employment, credit history, loan term, deposit size and the lender's view of the bike itself.
